Data Transmission Options
All transmission options send the captured signatures, handwritten changes and data back to the PlanetPress server. When the server receives the handwriting from the pen, it is merged with the original document creating a final PDF.
Dock – A USB docking cradle is included with the purchase of the Anoto Digital pen. The dock can connect to any PC and can post pen data to local or remote servers. With this option, the pen is placed in the dock when the information from the pen needs to be returned to the server. The PlanetPress server receives this information and merges it with the original document to create a completed PDF.
Docking and using USB connectivity is ideal for counter and other on-site applications.
Mobile Phone – To enable mobile technology, on standard smart phones, an included software router needs to be downloaded and configured on each phone. With the router active and an Anoto pen paired to the smart phone, the pen is ready to transmit information back to the host. Once the signature and handwritten changes to the form are completed, the user checks a box on the document called a pidget. The Anoto Digital pen recognizes this action as a “send” command. Using Bluetooth technology, the pen instantly and securely transmits the captured information via the smart phone back to the server. The PlanetPress server receives this information and merges it with the original document to create a completed PDF.
Transmitting via a smart phone is ideal for a mobile workforce that already uses or plans to use smart phones.
Direct Bluetooth Connection (For local, not mobile, applications) – Once the signature and handwritten changes to the form are completed, the user checks a box on the document called a pidget. The Anoto Digital pen recognizes this action as a “send” command. Using Bluetooth technology, the pen instantly transmits the captured information directly back to the local PC and then it is routed to the server via HTTP. The PlanetPress server receives this information and merges it with the original document to create a completed PDF.
The Direct Bluetooth transmission works best when the local PC is located more than 10 feet and less than 30 feet from where the pen or pens are being used. In addition, the direct Bluetooth connection is preferred when the use of a dock is cumbersome or less than desirable.
Modem – The LinkModem is a small, portable, purpose built device that transmits from the field automatically, with no user intervention. The modem is a rugged industrial product that can be carried by the user or mounted into vehicles. A benefit of this technology is the availability of low-cost data plans. This is in contrast to using or upgrading to smart phones and traditional high-cost data plans to transmit information. This option offers secure transmission that makes HIPAA and PCI compliance easier. It also makes managing your fleet of pens easier.
The LinkModem option works best for remote applications where security is a concern or where loading mission critical applications on cell phones is not ideal. It is also an alternative for companies that do not wish to use or make changes to their current mobile phone technology.
